Print Quality Manager:

This role is key to enable ‘irresistibly superior packaging on shelf' using industry specific mastery, to lead best in class processes across P&G's Design-to-Print (DtP) supply chain, leveraging all the available design/DtP and print tools.

Business Purpose:

The PQM role is key enabler to our organizational targets to deliver ‘irresistibly packaging on shelf'. The role partners with Design on new package design development to enable design intent realization, ensures technical fit-for-use and print feasibility. Key responsibilities are:

  • Prevention of print quality issues in the upstream packaging design process;
  • Effectively frame and communicate printing opportunities and limitations
  • Collaborate and guide Design leaders, Purchases and MPD on integrate print quality considerations and various special treatments
  • Deliver on-time design intent and supplier's qualifications.
  • Build multifunctional relationships for the print quality and printing capabilities with DtP, BVEs, Printers, Purchases, MPD and R&D Packaging.

This role requires a fundamental understanding of design, brand identity and design standards/guidelines, artwork file construction/ requirements, combined with expertise in standard industry pre-press & printing. S/he is expected to follow the globally established print quality standards and protocols. Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, influencing, and project management skills required.

Important Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Design Intent is delivered , and the artwork supply chain set up for success. Proactive- lead design intent implementation with strong print expertise by providing ideas/solution/action focusing on ensuring design intent can be executed cost effectively.
  • Control Print Quality , in close collaboration with regional MPD SPOC. Performs analysis of PQ KPIs and leads PQ Scorecard reviews with Printers/Pre-press agencies to ensure ongoing print quality improvements.
  • Prevent Print Quality Issues , in upstream packaging design process by leading print feasibility, technical fit-for-use. Resolve Print Quality interventions & Incidents by root-cause analysis, action planning and communication to key stakeholders. Deploy and communicates PQ preventative actions.
  • Lead Continuous improvement of Print Quality in collaboration with internal and external partners (printers, BVE, Pack Dev and Design)
  • Collaborates closely with multi-functional initiative team members, especially with i) Design leaders to ensure early involvement in packaging design work and delivery of print feasible design intent and ii) with Packaging MPD and purchasing to ensure that PQ KPIs are reported and monitored by printers
  • Co-lead qualifications for new printer's, new technologies / Substrates / Inks.
  • Ensures that print and digital files are released according to protocols and addresses respective gaps with printers and BVEs
  • Proactively explores both - cost savings and cost avoidance opportunities
  • Build PQ capability across all functions that ‘touch on Print Quality' (i.e. purchases, MPD, Design...) leading print quality/print feasibility trainings Provides Expert coaching and consultation to all parties touching onto the design - printing supply chain.
  • Innovate and support new capabilities for Print Quality, leveraging latest pre-press and print technologies or workflows. (I.e. explore new areas where digital printing can be applied)
  • Acts as sponsor for Web-center access for printers

Success Measures:

  • Print feasibility of Design Intent met and consistently reproduced across all pack forms
  • 100% of all interventions declared within a defined timeframe
  • PQT Average Score > 50 and improved FMOT
  • Score results co-relate well to visual results
  • Productivity improvements of Print Quality validation processes (i.e. new printers qualified, new technologies.)
  • Ensure Design intent from Design through to the printing process by having a Fit for Use discussions from Pre-press to shelf
  • No Print Quality Incidents

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Have a minimum of a 2 or 4 year degree in Print Production Related Field or similar related degree with minimum 2 years experience in the Print Industry.

Requirements:

Print Industry Knowledge

  • P&G internal or external experience in processes and technologies associated with print, pre-press, design
  • Understanding of the DtP process from design concept through technical mastery of the supply chain to production.
  • Experience and /or degree in visual communications, graphic design, or print management.

Print Quality Management

  • Capability to use industry devices, tools and software to drive Print Quality
  • Understanding of P&G Print KPIs (Color match, dot-gain, registration, visual defects and visual matching)
  • Understanding of capabilities and limitations of different print conditions
  • Production design file construction/requirements, across varied print applications
  • Understanding of packaging materials, substrates and their impact on Print Quality/Cost
  • Understanding of graphic lifecycle management and Color Management process (i.e. SCTV, G7, ICC profile creation)
  • Ability to assess current state and recommend systemic improvements

Brand Equity & Design Understanding

  • Understanding of brand equity, brand identity systems, production guidelines and how to translate design intent to packaging
  • Understanding of design and importance of design principles to achieve visual consistency
  • Basic knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop

Project Management and Leadership

  • Strong Project and time management skills - ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong business communication skills - Ability to capture and present information for reporting results and improvement areas
  • Proactively identify issues and willingness to continually build on knowledge to optimize tools and processes
  • Strong collaboration skills with multi-functional teams, external suppliers and comfortable in engaging with all levels of management

Build multifunctional Print Quality and printing capabilities

  • Ability to train different function on print capability independently of their background knowledge
  • Ability to articulate print quality related matters to people with no or only little knowledge, so they understand the value and can support it.

Champion Productivity & Value

  • Capability to leverage the use of the PQT data analytics to drive savings
  • Ability to analyze and assess current state and recommend systemic improvements. Proactively identify issues, implications, and provide potential solutions and savings.
  • Ability to use PQT recommended workflows to drive value through process efficiencies

Starting Pay / Salary Range: $85-$115K
