  • You are eager to receive coaching to grow as a person, teacher, and leader.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Complete pre-summer preparation and in-person training to get ready to teach on day 1.
  • Teach or co-teach elementary or middle-school students engineering, law, math, or reading for 5 weeks.
  • Co-teach enrichment classes and social-emotional skills.
  • Receive daily feedback and collaborate with your colleagues.
  • Plan and co-lead fun events that foster team building and engage students.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

  • Fellows receive a taxable cash scholarship of $3,000 to participate in this learning opportunity. Generation Teach does not withhold taxes.
  • You will have access to a letter of recommendation and personal introductions to partners if you are interested in teaching professionally.
  • You are eligible to receive 3 undergraduate credit hours from the University of Colorado-Denver for a reduced cost.
  • You will develop relationships with students, colleagues, and leaders that will stay with you for years to come.

WHEN YOU WILL TEACH

  • Aurora, Colorado: June 4 - July 17
  • Denver, Colorado: June 10 - July 24
  • Maryland, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island: June 24 - August 7

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who are my students?

You will teach rising K-8th grade students from our district and charter partner schools. Our students enroll voluntarily and have a wide range of academic preparation.

How big are my classes?

You will teach three academic classes of 10-16 students and one to two elective classes of 10-16 students.

What are the hours?

The hours are 8 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Three pre-scheduled evening events extend until 8:30 p.m.; these events are Family Night, Teach Local Night, and Wrap-Up Night.

Do I need to pursue an education major or minor to apply?

No! Our summer teaching fellows come from a range of majors; this may be the first time you're considering teaching.

Am I eligible to apply?

You must be a high school junior (11th grader) or older to apply.If you haven’t completed a full year of college yet, you’ll need to teach in the region where you currently live. You must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient to apply.

Do I need to submit official transcripts?

No, please submit unofficial transcripts unless you have official transcripts readily available. We do not want you to spend money securing transcripts for your application. If you do not have easy access to unofficial transcripts, please feel free to submit screenshots of your grades from your college portal.

Where is the program located?

Our programs are hosted by our district and/or charter partners, including Aurora Public Schools; Central Falls Public Schools; Denver Public Schools; District of Columbia Public Schools; Holyoke Public Schools; Howard County Public Schools; and Providence Public Schools.

My college offers summer internship funding. Can GT sign my paperwork to confirm I have completed the program and met the requirements?

Yes! We are happy to help you with your paperwork.

Can I submit separate applications to each city?

Please submit only one application. You will be asked to indicate your preferred location and whether you would like to be considered for other cities.

I don't live in the cities GT serves, but I really want to teach. Do you provide housing?

We do not provide housing. If you decide to teach in-person, we encourage you to connect with local fellows to identify summer housing options.

What happens after I submit my application?

We will review your application and invite promising candidates to a virtual interview. You will have your decision within four weeks of the application deadline. You will have five days to decide whether to enroll.
