GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Health Professions Division is seeking a faculty/academic fieldwork position. This position is responsible for all aspects of fieldwork, as outlined by ACOTE standards section C, which includes but is not limited to: onboarding, placement, assessment, and collaboration with fieldwork educators and community agencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Teaches OTA courses within the primary area of expertise and fieldwork-related aspects of the curriculum, involving curriculum design, strategic planning, teaching and student advising.
  1. Facilitates, motivates, and stimulates independent and cooperative learning, uses and demonstrates current technical clinical practice advances within occupational therapy education, and works collaboratively with faculty/staff and community agencies for effective intra- and inter-professional education.
  2. Assists in the development of the OTA curriculum, course content, selection of textbooks, resources, and lab equipment to facilitate student learning outcomes.
  3. Responsible for the program's compliance with the fieldwork requirements of ACOTE Standards Section C.1.0.
  4. Ability to locate, market, recruit, develop, and evaluate new and existing fieldwork sites (including site visits).
  5. Initiate and negotiate affiliation agreements/clinical training agreements (legal staff or administrative staff may complete).
  6. Schedule and confirm student placements. Monitor student progress during a fieldwork rotation and provide mediation as needed.
  7. Directs students in the process of completing all documentation to determine that students have completed all requirements for participation in fieldwork, including but not limited to updated health and immunization records, background checks, drug screening, liability insurance, BLS certification, and online training.
  8. Develop and update fieldwork educator handbooks, student manuals, and fieldwork course syllabi.
  9. Establishes, maintains, and manages an adequate number of appropriate Level 1 and Level 2 fieldwork sites to assure that students are offered the diversity and breadth of experiences reflective of the OTA program's philosophy, curriculum design, and accreditation standards.
  10. Directs and manages fieldwork agreements/contracts, database, and student fieldwork records, as well as oversees clerical aspects of fieldwork-related activities with support personnel.
  11. Maintains communication with established fieldwork sites and fieldwork educators via site visits, telephone calls, email, and written correspondence to monitor student performance and fieldwork needs
  12. Collaborates with OTA faculty, students, and fieldwork educators in the placement of students as well as in the design and implementation of fieldwork experiences that promote best practice in terms of curriculum design, student learning outcomes, fieldwork objectives, and professional standards.
  13. Leads departmental efforts to provide professional education for fieldwork educators.
  14. Collaborates with other academic fieldwork coordinators and participates in fieldwork consortia and support groups at the local, state, regional, and national levels.
  15. Participates in college meetings and committees, OTA department meetings, strategic planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, program accreditation, and student orientations.
  16. Participates in ongoing professional development activities

Job Requirements:
  • A baccalaureate degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized institutional accrediting agency.
  • Five years of documented experience in clinical practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Two years of professional experience as a Fieldwork Educator and documentation of training in the roles and responsibilities of a fieldwork educator.
  • Certified by NBCOT as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
  • Current MA license in good standing as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA).
  • At least 2 years of previous teaching experience at the Associate Degree level [academic, clinical, fieldwork, professional presentations, etc.] required
  • Demonstrated leadership in the field/practice/profession of occupational therapy.
  • Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer technology.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapy (MAOT) preferred.
