ABOUT DLI

The Diversity in Leadership Institute (DLI) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is dedicated to creating equitable educational outcomes for Black and Latinx students in California by cultivating a diverse and culturally competent pipeline of public education leaders. With a focus on racial diversity, equity, and inclusion (RDEI), DLI seeks to transform the educational landscape by increasing the representation of Black and Latinx leaders in K-12 schools through our signature 4-pronged approach which includes: 

• Leadership Fellowships: DLI offers two comprehensive programs designed to support aspiring school leaders of color in California through leadership coaching, mentorship, and professional development- the Aspiring Principals of Color Fellowship (in partnership with Loyola Marymount University) and the Diverse Leaders Fellowship (in partnership with the Los Angeles County of Education).
• School Leaders of Color Network (SLOCN): A membership-based network that connects current and aspiring school leaders of color. It offers dedicated programming programming grounded on culturally responsive practices.
• Consultancy: DLI works collaboratively with districts and charter schools/networks to provide critical services such as workshops, evaluation of current RDEI philosophies and practices, proposing solutions, performing assessments and reflections, and continued support.
• Coalition Building: DLI actively engages in legislative and policy advocacy to influence the implementation of policies that support the development and retention of educators of color through the CCEC (Charting the Course to Equity Coalition). 

Through these programs, DLI deepens its impact by driving systemic change, fostering leadership diversity, and ensuring that more students in California see leaders who reflect their own identities, leading to better educational outcomes. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our team is seeking an experienced Grants Manager to join our team and play a pivotal role in advancing our mission. Reports to the Director, Strategic Partnerships and works closely with the CEO, you will be responsible for leading our grant acquisition and management efforts, contributing to our overall revenue growth strategy. In your day to day role you will identify funding opportunities, prepare and submit grant proposals and reports, manage our grant budgets, and ensure compliance with grant requirements.

What You Will Do: 

Grant Strategy and Implementation

• Work closely with the CEO to manage and execute a strategy aimed at increasing the organization's revenue by $2 million through institutional grants. 
• Research and identify new funding prospects that align with DLI's priorities, ensuring a diversified and sustainable funding base.
• Continuously evaluate and refine the grant strategy to respond to emerging trends, funding opportunities, and shifts in the philanthropic landscape..

Storytelling and Communications 

• Support in drafting grant proposals and writing grant reports, and craft targeted donor communications that center and amplify DLI’s mission, fellow experiences, and program impact.
• Develop narratives that effectively communicate the organization's vision, values, and successes, making a strong case for support.
• Leverage data to illustrate the transformative impact of DLI’s programs on communities and educational outcomes.
• Ensure proposals are compelling and persuasive, detailing needs, objectives, budgets, and anticipated outcomes, while maintaining a consistent and authentic voice across all communications.

Grant Compliance Monitoring

• Ensure the organization remains in compliance with all grant stipulations, including tracking progress toward goals, overseeing expenditures, and monitoring grant-related activities.
• Conduct periodic internal reviews to verify that progress toward goals, milestones, and budget allocations is on track.
• Communicate proactively with funders about any discrepancies, challenges, or changes, resolving issues swiftly to maintain good standing.
• Monitor progress effectively, providing regular updates and reports to the CEO and board, and making data-driven adjustments to the strategy as needed

Grant Sourcing & Operations

• Identify existing and prospective grants and other strategic partners across local, state, federal, county, and national levels

• Serve as a point of contact to all funding agencies and organizations, facilitating clear and consistent communication

• Assist CEO and senior staff in identifying networks and connections to open new doors for funding opportunities

Requirements

\You might be a great fit for this role if you:

• Bring 2-3 years of experience in grant writing, with a proven record of crafting successful proposals.
• Manage and report on grants with precision, ensuring accurate tracking and compliance.
• Excel in project management, skillfully driving initiatives from start to finish.
• Conduct thorough research to provide valuable insights that strengthen grant applications.
• Communicate clearly and persuasively, building strong connections with diverse stakeholders.
• Stay highly organized and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail in your work.
• Champion social justice and equity, integrating these values into your approach.

Location: California Residents Only (Hybrid)

Desired Start Date: April 2025

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience
