Where and how you can work

The buzzing Canva London campus features several buildings around beautiful leafy Hoxton Square in Shoreditch. While our global headquarters is in Sydney, Australia, London is our HQ for Europe, with all kinds of teams based here, plus event spaces to gather our team and communities. You'll experience a warm welcome from our Vibe team at front of house, amazing home cooked food from our Head Chef, Shay, and a variety of workspaces to hang out with your team mates or get solo work done. That said, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals and so you have choice in where and how you work.

When you join our team in the UK, you'll also be joining forces with Flourish product, who we acquired in 2022 and is an exciting part of our Canva product. Flourish enables everyone to change the way they tell stories with data by creating rich, animated data visualizations and other interactive content that can be embedded anywhere - including in Canva!

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Supporting the development of backend systems with Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL that help create interactive data visualisations used by millions worldwide

• Contributing to system reliability through observability practices, monitoring, and deployment automation, with mentorship from team members

• Implementing and testing important features within our visualisation platform

• Collaborating on data handling processes to support effective visualisations while maintaining system flexibility

• Working in a cross-functional team to develop both server-side APIs and frontend client solutions

• Participating in code reviews and technical discussions to share knowledge and improve our engineering practices

• Joining our on-call rotation with structured support, learning incident response while helping improve our systems

You're probably a match if

• You showcase enthusiasm for learning and growth in a collaborative environment

• You hands-on experience using AI in coding to drive greater impact

• You bring a balanced approach to technical solutions, focusing on team impact

• You have an interest in helping people communicate effectively with data

• You have experience working with TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and some familiarity with AWS infrastructure

• You previously built API solutions and worked with databases like PostgreSQL

• You are interested in learning about system observability and reliable services

• You have the ability to write clean, tested code with clear documentation

• You have some experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing

About the team

You'll join the Flourish Platform Team, which is responsible for the core infrastructure and features that power our data visualisation platform. We work on everything from backend services that process complex datasets to the infrastructure that ensures our platform scales reliably for millions of users. Within the Canva organisation, Flourish continues as its own business, developing innovative data visualisation tools while contributing to the broader vision of making design accessible and data communication impactful.
